Irregular Migration Research Program – Seeking the views of irregular migrants.

Saskia Kirson Published Report

In 2013 McNair Ingenuity Research was commissioned by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection to survey recent Irregular Maritime Arrivals – effectively being asylum seekers arriving by boat. Using contact details provided by the department, McNair surveyed 1,008 people who had been granted protection in 2011 or 2012.  The process involved contacting the respondents by mail and telephone, gaining their agreement to participate in the survey, and then conducting the surveys face-to-face with a tablet computer.  The surveys were conducted in Hazaragi, Urdu, Farsi, Arabic, Tamil and English as necessary, and all forms as well as the tablet computer questionnaires were available in all languages.
